Orientation Student Coordinator

As one of two orientation student coordinators, I helped develop, plan, facilitate, and design content, workshops, events, and more for Student Orientation Undergraduate Leader (SOUL) recruitment, training, and team-building. I worked within a small team of 4 individuals for the majority of this experience. This team later grew to be five individuals overseeing approximately 24 SOULs during the orientation cycle.

To accommodate the review process within our team, as well as the need to brand items under Miami University branding guidelines, our team worked within Canva. This allowed easier collaboration while navigating various working hours. Designs within the carousel on this page are just a few designs I took the lead on throughout this position. Other design work completed includes presentations and facilitation guides for workshops that I worked with my fellow coordinator to plan and facilitate.

Building Belonging and Community

My roles in Orientation and Transition Programs have influenced my personal design philosophy and desire to build belonging and community in all that I do. These roles used a foundation in research and education to prepare our team of student leaders to facilitate successful orientation experiences. As a student coordinator, I conducted interviews of students to train as our orientation leaders. I also participated in interviewing for the position of the Assistant Director and the individual who would become my supervisor and an influential team member for future orientations.

My three years with Orientation and Transition Programs also allowed me to rediscover my values of kindness, compassion, education, and accessibility. This was vital as we worked to improve team morale every year with our new student leaders.
